If it’s your first EGX

If it’s your first EGX

Calling all EGX newbies! We want you to absolutely love your first EGX, so here’s a handy guide to help you make the most of these fun-packed four days.

What should you expect

EGX is a huge celebration of all things gaming, and it can get pretty loud and exciting. Expect crowds of people, super cool titles, heaps of merch, and a fair few queues! There’s loads of memories to be made at EGX, so if you’re mad about video games, you’re headed to the right place.

What should I wear?

  • Comfy Shoes – The ExCeL is a massive place and there’s going to be a lot of walking around and standing, so be sure to treat your feet to some comfy soles.

  • Jeans and nice top – Show us your best gaming loot! Let’s see your Destiny t-shirts, Final Fantasy hoodies, and your favourite Insert Coin jackets. Now’s the time to dress to impress.

  • Cosplay – Beginner, expert, or just doing it for fun, your cosplays are more than welcome at EGX. Just expect people to come up and ask for photos!

What should I bring?

  • Badges – Probably the most obvious one, but bring your badge! Whether you’ve had them delivered or you have the email confirmation, turn up to the event with your badge and your EGX journey will begin. (Also, keep your badge visible at all times when you’re wondering around the event!)

  • Battery Pack – There’s going to be a whole bunch of snap-worthy moments, so a battery pack would be a smart idea! (Especially useful if you’re using your phone to access the EGX app)

  • EGX App – We would recommend downloading the EGX app (closer to the event) so you can create a schedule for yourself and plan how to spend your days at the event.

  • Backpack – Who doesn’t love freebies? Bring a backpack (or similar) with you to stash away all your gamer loot!

  • Refillable water bottle – Hydration is key to survival at EGX! There’s water stations at the event for you to use to fill up your bottle, so don’t leave home without one!

  • Snacks – You’ll be spoilt for choice of grub over the 4 days, but we also advise that you bring along a snack (or two) to nibble on in queues!

  • Your handheld – This year we have a new feature called the Handheld Zone, and in this area you can meet fellow Switch or Steam Deck gamers. You’ll be able to find other players to trade, battle, and chat with. There’s charging points dotted around, so bring your portable console and don’t forget to pack your games! (This could be the winning opportunity to finally trade for that Animal Crossing item you’ve always wanted.)

Pro Tips

Organisation is key! Plan ahead for what games and panels you’d like to check out, and download the app nearer the time to schedule your day. You can also follow us on socials to keep up to date with all our announcements during the show.

  • Trade off with your group when queuing for stuff - use the opportunity to get some food, use the bathroom, or grab that bit of merch you’ve been eyeing up!

  • Set alarms on your phone so that you don’t miss that important panel or activities you’ve been looking forward to.

  • Ask a cosplayer before taking a picture of them or their props. We know they look amazing, but please be respectful of personal boundaries. Most people would love to have a photo, just make sure to ask first!

  • And last tip … and this is a BIG one... Enjoy yourself! We love welcoming gamers to EGX and they love meeting you, so get ready to make some friends and have a good time!
