EGX Theatre 2018

The EGX Theatre brings you face-to-face with world renowned game creators as they present their latest projects, take part in panel discussions and answer your questions. Most sessions will be live streamed on the EGX Twitch channel and will be available to watch later on the EGX YouTube channel.

The schedule is work in progress and will be updated as we reveal new sessions! Times are listed in British Summer Time.

Thursday 20th September

12pm: New game announcement – Animal Crossing meets Papers, Please Excalibur, the PC games specialist and publisher of Jalopy, reveal a brand new game live on stage. The mystery title is intriguingly pitched as Animal Crossing meets Papers, Please. Look out for an audience Q&A at the end of the session and the worldwide exclusive opportunity to play the game on the show floor once the session is complete.

1pm: From Anno 1602 to Anno 1800: 20 years of city-building Join Bastian Thun & Marcel Hatam from Ubisoft Blue Byte as they look at the past, present and future of one of the longest running city-building series in gaming. This panel will include a live gameplay demo of Anno 1800, showing a first glimpse at the gameplay depth and customisation players will get to experience as they build their own empire during the heyday of the industrial revolution. Suitable for all ages.

2pm: The state of VR in 2018 Developers from Dream Reality Interactive, the team behind unique VR experience Arca's Path, examine where virtual reality gaming currently stands and look at what might be around the corner for the medium. Featuring Laura Dodds (Head of Art), Sitara Shefta (Head of Production) and Albert Bentall (Creative Lead).

3pm: 11-11: Memories Retold From multi award-winning studio Aardman comes 11-11: Memories Retold. Set at the end of World War One, players will experience a moving story inspired by real events, playing on two sides of a complex historical event, confronting them with the realities of war at the front and the rear but most importantly what men are really made of.

4pm: Twin Mirror Twin Mirror is a mystery thriller developed by DONTNOD, the team behind Life is Strange and Vampyr. Players assume the role of Samuel, a 33-year old man recovering from a recent break-up who returns to his hometown Basswood, West Virginia, for the funeral of his best friend. Depressed and bitter, he feels completely out of sorts and out of place but when he wakes up in his hotel room with a bloody shirt and no memory of his whereabouts the previous night, he embarks on a twisted investigation to find the truth.

5pm: The Dark Pictures Anthology - Man of Medan Developed by Until Dawn creators Supermassive Games, The Dark Pictures Anthology is planned as a series of standalone cinematic horror games. Players will be challenged to explore and uncover each story with the knowledge that all their choices have consequences and all playable characters can live and all can die. Please note this session is 16 rated.

Friday 21st September

12pm: Wu Xing: The ancient Chinese philosophy at the heart of Total War: THREE KINGDOMS This talk explores how the Three Kingdoms development team is building the game’s many interlocking systems around the concept of Wu Xing – the ancient Chinese philosophy that describes the interrelationships of the five elements to view the workings of the world.

1pm: Disco Elysium - What happens when you're aiming to create the best RPG of all time ZAUM Studio's Aleksander Rostov (Art Director) and Robert Kurvitz (Lead Designer & Writer) are joined by Alex Wiltshire (Acclaimed Video Games Journalist) to discuss the development of Disco Elysium, a groundbreaking blend of hardboiled cop show and isometric RPG.

2pm: SEGA / ATLUS Game Showcase SEGA/ATLUS are at EGX presenting upcoming titles, including Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, the high-intensity action-adventure RPG based on the beloved manga, developed by the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio behind the acclaimed Yakuza series. Also on show are EGX exclusive demos for Persona 3: Dancing In Moonlight & Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, featuring new content for Persona and Rhythm game fans a-like!

3pm: Gear up. Speed up – Team racing at sonic speed! Join designers from Sumo Digital for a look under the hood of Team Sonic Racing! Combining the best elements of arcade and fast-paced competitive racing, the designers will show how they make the player feel part of a team, showcase key Team Actions and reveal their inspiration. Speakers: Richard Acherki, Peter Harries and Ben Wilson from Sumo Digital’s Nottingham studio.

4pm: Bungie panel - Building the Dreaming City Destiny's first endgame destination was created to serve the hobby of being a Guardian. After the campaign ended, we wanted open a whole new realm filled with mysteries and challenges - all the things that make Destiny interesting over a longer timeline. Many disciplines worked together to bring this new place to life. Featuring: DeeJ (Moderator), Steve Cotton (Game Director), Mallory Schleif (Writer), Andrew Hopps (World Artist) and Tom Farnsworth (Activity Designer).

Saturday 22nd September

12pm: HITMAN 2 Join staff from IO Interactive as they take to the stage to present updates on HITMAN 2, the latest title in the acclaimed HITMAN franchise. Featuring entirely new hyper-detailed sandboxes full of living, breathing environments to explore, HITMAN 2 offers players the freedom to plan the ultimate assassination utilising an assortment of tools, weapons, disguises and a variety of stealth techniques to creatively trigger their own unique chain of events. Please note, this session is 18 rated.

1pm: Nvidia RTX and the future of graphics Dedicated ray tracing hardware is coming to PC gaming for the first time. Just how big of a leap is it, what should we expect from first-gen hardware and what are the implications for the next generation of consoles?

3pm: Sunless Skies Paul Arendt, Failbetter's CEO and Art Director, will share a behind the scenes look at how Sunless Skies has evolved from Sunless Sea, including an advance peek at updates coming in October. Plus at least one surprise, and not the cannibal kind. This is a must-see for Failbetter fans.

4pm: Arcadia Baes LIVE Eurogamer’s Aoife, Johnny and Tom sit down with Life is Strange 2 writer Jean Luc Cano and unravel the thread of a new narrative journey in the Life is Strange universe. Life is Strange 2 follows two brothers, 16-year old Sean and 9-year old Daniel Diaz, who flee their home in suburban Seattle after a tragic event that changes their lives forever. In this live Q&A session, learn how developer DONTNOD brought the boys and their story to life.

Sunday 23rd September

12pm: LEGO DC Super-Villains TT Games' Head of Design Arthur Parsons will give attendees a behind the scenes look at LEGO DC Super-Villains, the first LEGO game to put players at the centre of a villain-centric adventure.

1pm: Bethesda Community Quiz John Robertson hosts the first ever EGX Bethesda Community Quiz. Panellists will be tested on a number of Bethesda related questions with prizes for lucky members of the general audience. Please note this session will not be live streamed.

2pm: Dreams Join Peter Field (Designer at Media Molecule) to learn more about Dreams, an extraordinary open-ended experience where you can make anything, from interactive adventures and platformers, to shoot ‘em ups, puzzlers and more.

3pm: Fortnite vs PUBG and the future of battle royale - a Eurogamer debate Join Eurogamer editor Oli Welsh and members of the team for a lighthearted rehash of a debate had every day in the office: which is better, Fortnite Battle Royale or PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds? Slightly more seriously, we'll be looking at what's next for the battle royale genre, and asking whether it's just a fad or here to stay.
